Sixty-eight players signed up. Five did not finish on Saturday. Fourteen more decided not to play on Sunday, and thus we ended up with forty-nine players, forty-three playing blue and six playing the white tees. Payouts were adjusted accordingly.

Next up is Summer Field Day on July 17, a member only tournament honoring Lifetime Member Dick Rovig. If you are a member and want to play but have not joined the Weekend League, let me know.

White Tees Close to Blue Tees

During the Two-Day, the white tees and blue tees were closer together than usual. That won’t be the case going forward. Golf Course Superintendent Greg Van Hollebeke responded to that concern:

Thank you for letting me know about the tees.

I had told my weekend crews to keep the tees somewhat condensed and on the healthiest parts of the tees given the heat we were about to experience.  I fully admit that I was not thinking about the 2-day event when I gave them that direction.  That was my mistake.  In the future, please don’t hesitate to reach out and give me a reminder as well, especially if there might be an issue with cup or tee placement. …and hopefully we won’t have another heat wave like that either.

Pace of Play

Pace of play was much better at the June Two-Day. The course was already slow on Saturday when the tournament began, leading to an average time of 4:48 per round. Sunday was better than Saturday with an average of 4:27 per round. Please note how the first two groups on Sunday were close to four hours and then the third group, with a time of 4:30, slowed down the rest of the field. That demonstrates the importance of keeping up with the group in front of you.

No penalties were assessed in this tournament, even though five groups could have been given penalties. That was my doing. The procedures that worked pre-Covid for analyzing the data and assessing penalties do not work now. I am making the necessary adjustments for the Summer Field Day, working with Tuesday and Thursday Tournament Director Jay Clark and the Rules and Greens Committee: Reid Swick (Chairman), Reed Johnson, and Dave Foreman. As a reminder, here are the current pace of play rules:

If a group finishes the round more than 15 minutes behind the group in front of them and over 4 hours and 30 minutes after they started, all players in the group will get a penalty as follows.

  • 16-21 minutes behind – one stroke

  • 22-37 minutes behind – two strokes

  • 38+ minutes behind – disqualification
