TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Welcome to another year of tournament golf at Jackson Park. 2015 was a fun and competitive year, and 2016 is shaping up to be more of the same.

I would like to give a big thank you to John Clements for his contribution as tournament director and handicap chairperson over the past 11 years. John has been a mentor to me as tournament director and Seattle Cup captain. His knowledge, experience and passion have been invaluable to our club. John will remain an influential member of the men’s club in his roles as trustee, Vice Captain of the Seattle Cup team, and underpaid tournament consultant.

Monthly Stroke-Play Tournament Schedule: Our first tournament of the 2016 season will be the Tombstone event on February 20. The monthly tournament schedule will be similar to past years. Guests are invited to participate in many of our events. Marquee events (field days, two-man best ball, two-day stroke play) are limited to members only. Submit your entries by contacting the pro shop in-person or by phone.

Match Play Championships (Handicap Division): New for 2016, your membership in the Jackson Park Men’s Club allows you to participate in the handicap division of the Match Play Championships with no entry fee. Registration is required, so be sure to renew your membership and sign up for the Match Play at the pro shop prior to April 17.

Match Play Championships (Scratch and Two-Man Divisions): Entry into the scratch division and fourball (two-man best ball) Match Play Championships will be $20 per player. Registration is required and your entry must be received prior to May 22. Entry into multiple divisions of the Match Play Championships is allowed and encouraged, so sign up for any or all of the divisions.

2015 Seattle Cup Champions! Last summer, we were led by Greg Heim, Kyle Johnson, and Jeff Schoening as we successfully defended our Seattle Cup title. This is an awesome event and a source of great pride for our men’s club. It is a team match play event played at each of the Seattle golf courses over two weekends in August. John Clements, Jim Huckabay and I will be responsible for choosing the 2016 team in our attempt at a third consecutive, and sixth overall, Seattle Cup title. If you are interested in representing Jackson Park in the 2016 event, then please let us know. We make every attempt to identify the players who are most deserving of participation in the event, but we don’t get a chance to play with everybody. Your interest level is an important factor in choosing our team.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have questions, comments, or suggestions about tournaments or handicapping. I look forward to another great year of tournament golf for our men’s club.
