Dick Rovig, Lifetime Member and Historian at JPMGC

Dick Rovig, Lifetime Member and Historian at JPMGC, died on January 1, 2023.

Jackson Park Men’s Golf Club has lost one of its longstanding leaders.

Richard Rovig Obituary

Dick Rovig served as the club Secretary for many years until 2008 and briefly in 2011, as the Handicap Chairman from 2003 to 2008, as the Webmaster until 2013, and as the Club Historian since then. His articles on Jackson Park history can be found here: Jackson Park History. Dick was made an Honorary Member in 2009 and a Lifetime Member in 2019. Since 2013, we have celebrated Dick at the Summer Field Day. He created the Most Mediocre Golfer Award for the golfer with the mean gross score at his tournament. Dick said that he ‘always finished in the middle of the pack’, and rather than honoring the winners of his Field Day, he wanted to honor the golfer of the day most like himself. The award given is not a traditional trophy with a golfing figure, but an insulated coffee mug! The award winners are listed in the Membership Handbook.

A couple of weeks before he died, Dick talked with Dan Puetz, Sr. Dick asked Dan to continue with the Mediocre Golfer award, so that will be a continuing feature of Summer Field Days.
